Ballymacrickett acknowledged as a Rights Respecting School.
On Tuesday the 17th November Mr David Gillespie of UNICEF spent the day at Ballymacrickett to assess if we met the criteria to be a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. After a very rigorous assessment process involving interviews with pupils, parents, support staff, members of the Board of Governors and school management and having examined detailed files of evidence including pupils work, teaching plans and school policies Mr Gillespie was delighted to award Ballymacrickett Rights Respecting School status. As part of Personal Development and Mutual Understanding the pupils and staff have been learning about the Convention for the Rights of the Child and the articles contained within it. All classes now display agreed class charters instead of classroom rules and work in many subject areas is now linked to individual articles. Many of the notice boards highlight individual articles being addressed.
The children marked achieving this award by exercising article 31 of the convention (The right to relax and play) and took a night off homework!!
